Lieutenant Mike Lukas is the Accreditation Manager for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office in Woodstock, Illinois and the 2013 CAMA Accreditation Manager of the year.
Mike’s daily responsibilities include not only ACA Accreditation, but he also assists in yearly audits conducted by Immigration and US Marshals for detainees and inmates being held on a contract basis by his department. Every auditor and inspector that comes through the facility has great things to say about the department’s compliance to their standards and the professionalism displayed by the staff. They all make special recognition and compliment Mike’s vast knowledge and assistance while conducting their review. Mike works tirelessly to ensure that policies and procedures are up to date and disseminated to staff. He is often found in his office after hours “just finishing up one more thing”. Mike believes in and is committed to the accreditation process. He recently earned the Certified Corrections Manager designation through the American Correctional Association. Mike also chairs the Standards Committee for the Illinois Correctional Association.
One of the most impressive things about Mike is his willingness to help out others who ask for assistance or advice. Whether it be responding to an inquiry on a listserv or an individual request from someone outside the agency, Mike will drop everything he is doing to make sure the request is handled and the individual gets what they need. Mike doesn’t keep any secrets when it comes to his role as Accreditation Manager and loves to talk shop with anyone who will listen. Everyone who has had the pleasure of interacting with Mike will agree that he epitomizes a professional dedicated to their craft, which is why he is being recognized through CAMA as the 2013 Accreditation Manager of the Year.
